UConn has needs beyond football
The U in UConn is for university.
Never mind that the football program is hemorrhaging tens of millions of taxpayer dollars year after year (don’t forget to include the value of 85 full-ride scholarships) or that because of the ineptitude of various athletic directors and coaches, four other sports had to be cut.
The problem is that for every one of the scholarships that go to these overgrown athletes, there’s one fewer scholarship for an aspiring chemistry student, a promising astrophysicist or future immunology researcher.
