Vietnam veteran is fed up

-

As an Independent anti-Vietnam veteran who served in Vietnam, I am furious, disappointed and disgusted with the politics and individual actions by the collective “we” as Americans. First, we have a small minority of our population who seem to want the destruction of our way of life. Most Republicans are espousing false statements about COVID-19, the election, and our Capitol’s insurrection. The anti-vaxxers seem to ignore science while embracing inaccurate political fodder, all at the costs of fellow Americans’ lives. Shame on everyone who threatens, acts out in violence toward caregivers, school administrators and teachers, simply because they disagree with policies. Partial blame lies with social media platforms and those who use it for factual news, to unknowingly become radicalized. Our society has been getting more self-centered, self-absorbed, disrespectful and prone to violence.

I have been an activist against the Vietnam War and have been arrested for helping Black Americans register to vote, but I have never acted violently nor did I do anything illegal. I am now off my soapbox. I have no interest in anyone’s politics or beliefs but no one has the right to threaten, stalk, or act out against anyone.

People, just get your act together.
