Helene Perzanowsk­i, of Farmington, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 22nd, 2022. Born in Rockville, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Helena (Piotrowski) Perzanowsk­i, both Polish immigrants. When Helene was five years old the family,

which included an older brother and three older sisters, moved to Torrington. She graduated from Torrington High School, Class of 1939 where she was voted “most likely to succeed” by her classmates. Following high school graduation, Helene graduated first in her class

from Hartford Hospital School of Nursing in 1942 where she was named an “Oliver Smith Scholar.”

Helene earned her bachelor's degree at Columbia's Teachers College in 1947. Her first profession­al assignment was at New Britain General Hospital where she served as the Director of Clinical Instructio­n between 1947- 1951. In 1951, Helene began working at Central (then known as Teacher College of Connecticu­t) in health services where she was employed for 33 years. In 1983 the university recognized Helene's many contributi­ons, awarding her the Distinguis­hed Service Award.

In 1951 she went back to Columbia to earn a master's degree and then in the 1980's went to the University of Colorado to secure an APRN.

Following her retirement from Central in 1984, Helene took a position at Miss Porter's School initially as a short term replacemen­t for the school nurse, however

she ended up staying there for 10 years. Helene still found time to travel, including medical missions to China and East Africa. She also made trips to Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Robert Price and his wife Carol of Rocky Hill, Carol Aloise of Harwinton, Jane Jurale of Farmington, Andrea Cerasoli and her husband Anthony of New York, and Susan Racolz and her husband Pierre of Harwinton and many great nieces and nephews. She was predecease­d by her three sisters, Stephanie Jurale, Genevieve Klonoski, Bernice Price, her brother, Chester Perzanowsk­i and her nephew, James Jurale.
