Shriver scores 23 to lift Hartford to win over NJIT

David Shriver had a seasonhigh 23 points as Hartford romped past NJIT 83-62 on Saturday at West Hartford.

D.J. Mitchell had 17 points for Hartford (10-18, 8-8 America East Conference). Briggs McClain added 11 points and six rebounds. Austin Williams had seven assists.

Hartford posted a season-high 17 3-pointers.

Hartford dominated the first half and led 43-25 at halftime. The Hawks’ 43 points in the first half were a season best for the team.

Mekhi Gray had 15 points and four blocks for the Highlanders (11-16, 6-11). Miles Coleman added 14 points. Da’mir Faison had 11 points.

The Hawks improve to 2-0 against the Highlanders for the season. Hartford defeated NJIT 65-49 on Feb. 12.

Mount St. Mary’s 65, Central Connecticut State 46: At New Britain, Nigel Scantlebury scored a team-high 18 points in the Blue Devils’ Northeast Conference loss.

Tre Mitchell added 10 points as

CCSU dropped to 7-23 and 4-13.

Cornell 71, Yale 65: At Ithaca, N.Y., Jordan Jones and Guy Ragland Jr. scored 11 points apiece to lead Cornell past Yale 71-65 on Saturday.

Greg Dolan added 10 points for the Big Red (14-10, 6-7 Ivy League). Dean Noll had six steals.

Jalen Gabbidon had 15 points for the Bulldogs (16-11, 10-3). Azar Swain added 13 points and Yussif Basa-Ama grabbed eight rebounds.

The Big Red evened the season series against the Bulldogs. Yale defeated Cornell 96-69 on Jan. 15.

Sacred Heart 80, St. Francis, Pa., 68:

At Fairfield, Bryce Johnson tallied 14 points and 15 rebounds to lift Sacred Heart.

Nico Galette had 18 points for Sacred Heart (10-19, 6-10 Northeast Conference). Tyler Thomas added 17 points and six assists. Aaron Clarke had 10 points.

Josh Cohen had 21 points and eight rebounds for the Red Flash (9-20, 5-13). Maxwell Land tied a career high with 20 points. Brad McCabe had eight rebounds.

The Pioneers evened the season series against the Red Flash. St. Francis (Pa.) defeated

Sacred Heart 85-74 on Jan. 23.
