Steven Barry Weiss (age 73), husband of Dr. Kenneth I. Freedman, since 1992 of Westbrook CT and Delray Beach FL passed away on October 12, 2022 at Yale New Haven Hospital after a short battle with aggressive thyroid cancer. His family was by his side. Steve was born January 20, 1949 in Newark NJ. He was the son of the late Joseph and Dorothy Weiss of West Orange NJ, and later of Coconut Creek FL. Steve graduated and attended Springfiel­d College with a Bachelors' and Masters' degree. He was employed by the State of Connecticu­t Bureau of Disability Determinat­ion, retiring in 2003. Steve was a past President of the West Beach Associatio­n. A light hearted man, Steve had a loving and gentle nature with a great sense of humor. He was a great host, engaging conversati­onalist, and made new friends easily – nobody was a stranger to Steve for very long. He was an avid animal lover, enjoyed gardening, decorating, African Art, SHOPPING, travel, time spent with family/friends, organizing a Bocce league, and living at the beach. In addition to his husband Ken, he is survived (and will be dearly missed by): his son Kevin Weiss and his wife Kathy of Belchertow­n MA; his brother Larry Weiss and his wife Ruth of Toledo OH; his aunt Claire Weinstein Haas of Tamarac FL; his grandsons Griffin and Trevor Weiss; and his beloved dog Charlie. Steve had many loving nieces/nephews: Rachel Bell (and her husband Rodney) of Louisville KY, David Weiss (and Kelly) of Toledo OH, Daniel Weiss (and his wife Alison) of Toledo OH, Karen Tejkl (and her husband Rudy) of Lansdale PA, Wendy Hanlin (and her husband James) of Seattle WA, and Jill Mandura (and her life partner Brock Mason) of Morristown NJ. Dear friends included Lonni Dubaldo (“sister”), Margaret Lomba, Dr. Sergio & Maureen Francescon, Sharon & Roger Galvin, Ronald Bodeau, Amy Provost, and Heather Cole. He was also predecease­d by: Jerry Lettieri, Arthur Mills, and dogs (Mo-Shu, Chelsea, Cody, and Casey). Steve's family would like to express their deep gratitude to the Yale New Haven Hospital and Oncology staff for their wonderful care. Appreciati­on is also felt to Steve & Ken's friends & neighbors for their many acts of kindness and support during his illness. A private ceremony celebratin­g Steve's life will be held in the coming week. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
