Trinity pulls away from Williams

The undefeated Trinity football team opened up a close game with a 16-point fourth quarter to pull away for a 32-13 win over Williams on Saturday in Hartford.

Leading the 1-5 Ephs only 16-13 after three quarters, the Bantams’ rally in the final period got started with a 27-yard field goal by Matthew Junes at 14:46.

The lead was padded when quarterbac­k Spencer Fetter hooked up with DeVante Reid on a 22-yard scoring play with 11:22 remaining to make the score 25-13. Tyler Dinapoli then put the game away with a 2-yard run with 6:23 left.Fetter was 16 of 24 for 220 yards and two TDs for 6-0 Trinity, leading Middlebury by one game in the race for the NESCAC title. Reid caught four passes for 78 yards and Dinapoli three for 39, including a 35-yard TD pass in the second quarter. Colin McCabe rushed for 177 yards on 18 carries.

Penn 20, Yale 13: At Philadelph­ia, Jonathan Mulatu went over left tackle for a 1-yard touchdown with 20 seconds left to lift Penn. The Quakers (6-0, 3-0 Ivy League), off to their best start since the undefeated 2003 team won 10 games, chewed up almost five minutes in taking 10 plays to march 54 yards.

The Bulldogs (4-2, 2-1) had gambled on fourthand-3 at the Penn 40 but Joey Slackman and Micah Morris combined to sack Nolan Grooms.

Aidan Sayin completed 28 of 43 passes for 298 yards with Rory Starkey catching a career-high nine for 86 yards and 3-yard touchdown 14 seconds before halftime that tied the score at 10.

Bowdoin 28, Wesleyan 26: At Bowdoin, Maine, Charlie

McPhee was stopped trying to rush for a tying two-point conversion with 1:34 left in the game and the Cardinals had their three-game win streak come to an end.

Wesleyan, led by quarterbac­k Niko Candido, rallied for 12 points in the game’s final 3:53 to pull into a position to tie the 2-4 Polar Bears. Candido threw a 16-yard scoring pass to Logan Tomlinson and a 21-yarder to Thomas Elkhoury in the stretch.

Duquesne 30, Central Connecticu­t State 6: At New Britain, Darius Perrantes threw two touchdown passes, Ezekiel Daure returned an intercepti­on for a touchdown, and CCSU fell to 0-7 on the season.

Perrantes, who was 17-of24 passing for 260 yards, threw touchdowns of 7 yards to Abdul Janneh in the second quarter and 24 yards to Jalin Cooper in the fourth. Perrantes’ top target was Dwayne Menders with eight catches for 118 yards.

Central Connecticu­t fell to 0-7, 0-3.

Merrimack 31, Sacred Heart 25: At North Andover, Mass., Gavin McCusker threw for a touchdown and got decisive score on the ground, leading Merrimack. McCusker, who threw for 124 yards, including a 20-yard TD pass to Pat Conroy, scored on a 2-yard run with 15 seconds left in the third quarter. Midway through the fourth quarter the Warriors’ Jared Dunn blocked a Sacred Heart punt and Lliam Davis capped the scoring with a 37-yard field goal.

Trailing 31-25, Sacred Heart had two remaining possession­s. Sam Renzi missed a 27-yard field goal with 5:22 remaining and later time ran out with the Pioneers at the Merrimack 27-yard line.
