Dr. John Paardenkoo­per country doctor and respected family physician that routinely made house calls dies at age 88.

John Paardenkoo­per born in Utrecht, Netherland­s graduated from the University of Utrecht in 1960 as a licensed Medical Doctor. He interned in New Britain General Hospital and went on to establish his practice in Moodus, Ct. out of his residence. Dr. Paardenkoo­per was an old school family physician for 32 years. If a patient had an emergency they would come to his office/residence or he would make a house call. Early in his practice he delivered babies and attended many surgeries. He was on the staff at Middlesex Hospital. He was one of the first physicians to treat Lyme disease and was recognized for his work in an article in the New England Journal of Medicine. When not working he was an avid gardener, bridge and chess player. After retirement he traveled the world extensivel­y with his wife Corrie. A private family memorial ceremony will be held followed by interment at First Church Cemetery East Haddam, Ct. John Paardenkoo­per was preceded by his wife of 58 years Cornelia Paardenkoo­per. He is survived by his daughters Erana Paardenkoo­per, Jayn Paardenkoo­per (Robert Shawhan), Jackie Facinelli (James Facinelli), son John Paardenkoo­per (Gabriela Paardenkoo­per) and two grandchild­ren Dominick Facinelli and Katarina Paardenkoo­per.
