-

Consolina A. "Connie" Zabel, 80, of Enfield NH and Windsor CT, died peacefully at the Jack Byrne Center on October 21st with her family by her side.

Connie was born June 12, 1942, in Hartford CT, the daughter of Valente and Josephine (Chiodo) Gallucci. Connie was named after her father's mother Consolina (Bernadi) Gallucci. She was the oldest of 3 sisters. Unfortunately, both of her sisters died in infancy. Connie grew up in Hartford CT with her parents and graduated from Weaver High School in the class of 1960. Her senior yearbook described her as "...a peppy Gal, always in the foreground."

After high school Connie attended the University of Hartford for about a year before she married her loving husband of 61 years, Robert O. Zabel on August 5th 1961 at Hartford CT. They made their first home in South Carolina where Robert was serving in the US Marine Corps. There Connie gave birth to their son John R. Zabel in 1962.

When Robert returned from service in Vietnam, they made homes in Glastonbury and Windsor CT. Eventually buying a home on Mascoma Lake in Enfield NH where they enjoyed summer weather and special weekends with friends and family.

Devoted wife and mother, Connie is survived by her husband Robert, son John, loving niece Heide Zabel, devoted and caring grandson Patrick, beloved granddaughter Niki-Lee Sprague and the two loves of her life great grandchildren Declan and Teagan.

Her zest for life and caring for others allowed her to form many trusted friendships and to inspire confidence and enthusiasm in others. She loved gardening, had a sense of humor and loved helping other people. Connie was a devoted Catholic who issued many prayers and lit special candles for those in need.

Some of her final words were "The most important day is not the day you are born or the day that you die it's what you do during your life to make this world a better place."

A memorial service will be held 11am November 5th at Saint Joseph Church in Poquonock CT.

The Rand-Wilson Funeral Home in Hanover is assisting the family.
