Edward J. Patz, 86, of Newington, CT, beloved husband of Phyllis (Vassallo) Patz, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 28, 2022, surrounded by his family. Born May 21, 1936, to the late John and Jenny Patz, he lived in Newington his entire life. He graduated from the Newington High School class of 1955, where he had been class president all four years. Eddie met the love of his life, Phyllis, in the fourth grade. They were married for sixtyfive years. In high school, he worked at his brother's auto shop, Patz Brother's, on Main Street in Newington. He was employed by Fenn Manufactur­ing as a metallurgi­st for forty-two years. He was an avid traveler, collecting clocks along the way. You could hear him yelling at his beloved Red Sox and Lady Huskies. He was a Holy Spirit CYO, Newington Little League PAC, and Newington Midget Football Redskins coach. He followed his sons' sports activities and even followed his daughter's cheerleadi­ng through their years in Newington public schools. He was passionate about his landscapin­g and his John Deer tractor. He could fix anything with duct tape. Eddie was truly the “cat with nine lives,” being a twenty-year liver recipient survivor. Above all else, Eddie was most passionate about his family. Besides his wife, Eddie leaves behind, to mourn his loss: his children: his daughter, Kathy Patz Riccio and husband, Thomas, of Berlin; sons John Patz and wife, Loraine, of Newington, and Richard Patz, and wife, Diane, of Jupiter, FL; grandchild­ren: Kristina Dukette and husband, Garrett of Columbia, Jennifer Pietrasko and husband, Kenneth of Newington, Joseph Patz Vineyard and husband, Jesse of New York, Colleen Hockenberr­y and husband, Jordan of Parish, FL, Mia and Cassidy Patz of Orlando, FL; He also leaves behind five great grandchild­ren with a sixth on the way; Eddie was one of four brothers and leaves his brother Robert Patz, Sr. and his wife, Pauline, of Newington and sisters-in-law, Lucille Vassallo of Newington, Diane Hart and husband, George of Westfield, MA. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Eddie was predecease­d by his brothers: Raymond and Richard Patz and grandson, EJ Patz. Eddie will be also be missed by his sweet dog, Sophia. The family would like to thank the staff at Jefferson House for his care over the last few months. Family and friends may call TODAY, Sunday, October 30, 2022, from 4:00 PM-7:00 PM at the Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, October 31, 2022, DIRECTLY at 10:00 A.M. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 183 Church Street, Newington.
