John Richards Battey, 65, of Granby, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2022,

after a brief illness. Born in Springfiel­d, MA on February 22, 1957, son of Ann (Richards) Battey and the late John Klein Battey, he was raised in West Hartford and was a graduate of Renbrook School and Watkinson School, Class of 1975. After high school, John worked at Service Merchandis­e in West Hartford and later at Frese's Import Auto in Farmington. John retired from Northwest Airlines in 2012 where he worked for over 10 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing in and around Granby, especially at his favorite spots, Christense­n Pond, Salmon Brook and in the Farmington River and riding his quad around his property and on trails throughout the Farmington Valley. A sports enthusiast since he was a child, John played soccer and lacrosse at Renbrook and Watkinson and in recent years he was a dedicated Alabama Crimson Tide football fan and Montreal Canadians hockey fan. He looked forward each week to placing friendly wagers with his brother on the weekly games and discussing the players and coaches. In addition to his mother, he leaves a brother, William Stanton Battey of Suffield; and his Landseer Newfoundla­nd, Ollie. Besides his father, he

was predecease­d by two faithful Newfoundla­nds, Montie and Sampson. His family will receive friends on Thursday, December 22, 4-7 p.m., with a memorial service at 7 p.m., at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby.
