-

Gabriel E. Nisotis, 95, of Wethersfield, CT beloved husband of Athena (Lesbines) Nisotis, passed away peacefully at his home Monday, December 12, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones. A loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, he was born in Hartford, CT, son of the late Elefterios and Catherine (Shamora) Nisotis. He was married to his “sweetie” and best friend, Athena for 65 years. Prior to his retirement, Gabriel was a school social worker at Bulkeley High School and supervisor for Child Welfare Services for the State of Connecticut. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during World War II on the U.S.S. Manchester as a plank owner. Gabe was a graduate of Hartford Public High School, Amherst College (wherein he was the Harry de Forest Smith classical Greek scholar), and the University of Connecticut School of Social Work at which he received his MSW. Gabe was an avid reader, liked crossword puzzles and played on a bowling league for many years. He was proud of his Greek heritage and as a tradition, gathered his family together to celebrate the annual Greek festival. He made people laugh with his sense of humor and was loved by all.

In addition to his wife, those left to cherish his memory are his children Rhea dePreaux, Mark Nisotis (wife Deborah), Leda Chiburis, Iris Conner (fiancé Kurt Lang) along with his grandchildren Jason, Steven, Kalika, Kiara, John, and James dePreaux; Emily, Alyssa, and Rebecca Nisotis; Daniel and Robin Chiburis, and Kevin and Christopher Conner. He was pre-deceased by his siblings and their spouses Rose Aliano (Sam), Florence Michelson, Peter Nisotis (Agnes), Charles Nisotis (Jessie), Merci Eukers (Lloyd), Gregory Nisotis (Nita) and Mary Uccello (Nicholas) along with his son-in-law Jeffery Conner. He also leaves seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. We would like to offer our sincere thanks and gratitude to Visiting Angels for their compassionate caregivers and to the Masonicare hospice team.

Memorial service will be private at the convenience of the family and burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery with full military honors. The Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield, CT is in charge of arrangements. To share a memory of Gabriel, please visit www.dillonbaxter.com
