Elaine Haddad, 92, of Rocky Hill, CT passed away peacefully on December 15, 2022. She was the oldest of six siblings and is survived by three sisters, Jeannette Fitts of Cromwell, CT, Marguerite “Bunny” Sherman (Wayne) of Cromwell, CT, Georgette Armstrong of Lake Placid, FL and by two brothers, Adeeb S. Haddad of Portland, CT and Theodore S. Haddad of Tappahanno­ck, VA.

Elaine was born in Willimanti­c, CT and received her BA from the University of Connecticu­t in 1952 and her MA from the University of Wisconsin in 1953. Subsequent­ly, she worked as a clerk-typist at Pratt and Whitney for two years and then, as an assistant to the Head of Johnson Hall at Columbia University in New York City. She returned to the University of Wisconsin-Madison to pursue her Ph.D. which she obtained in 1962.

She taught Spanish Language and Literature at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 1960-1963, the University of Massachuse­tts-Amherst, 1963-1970 and Southern Connecticu­t State University-New Haven, 1970-1989, the year in which she retired.

Elaine dedicated her life to her family, and she was always there when anyone needed her. She maintained relationsh­ips with her many cousins, and continued to keep close family ties with her family in Lebanon. She was known as “Aunt Elaine” to her 14 nieces and nephews and their children.

After retirement Elaine moved to Rocky Hill to be closer to her siblings. She loved her crosswords, and they were always a conversati­onal piece when anyone was around. She loved to play Scrabble and could play any card game!

Elaine was also very civic minded, donated to many charities, and cared deeply for humanitari­an projects. She was active in the Rocky Hill senior center for many years.
