Paola Mozzicato, 95, of Wethersfield passed away on Wednesday, December 14th, 2022. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years,
Michele Mozzicato. Paola was born on July 9th, 1927 in Canicattini Bagni, Province of Siracusa, Italy. She was the daughter of Santo and Rosalia (Gallo) Ferrante. Paola immigrated to the United States in March of 1953 where she lived and worked as a seamstress in Massachusetts. She later relocated to Hartford, Connecticut in 1958 and together with her husband, Michele founded the Modern Pastry Shop located on Franklin Avenue in Hartford's South End. She worked tirelessly alongside her husband to create a successful business which has been family owned and operated for three generations. Customers still share fond memories of her kindness and generosity throughout the years. As much as she loved baking she never gave up her passion for sewing, knitting and crocheting. She took great pride in creating and gifting her work to loved ones. Paola was very dedicated to her family and always looked forward to Sunday dinners where she could spend time with all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Paola is survived by her daughter, Lia Sardelli and her husband Carmelo, grandchildren Lisa Rubbo and her husband Danny, Michael Sardelli, Carla Scionti and her husband Antonio all of Wethersfield and seven great grandchildren who affectionately called her Nonna Paolina.
Besides her husband Michele, she was predeceased by her sister Marietta Amenta, brother-in- law Giuseppe of Canicattini Bagni, brother Salvatore Ferrante and her sister-in-law Kay of Massachusetts.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11
a.m. on Tuesday (December 20th) at the Church of the Incarnation (Christ the King Parish), 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield. Everyone is asked to please meet directly at the church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
