Sydney Galloway Woomer, of Chester, CT, died on December 20, 2022. She was 81 years old. Born to Sidney W. Galloway and Mary Gibbons Galloway of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvan­ia, on November 9, 1941, Sydney graduated from Mount Lebanon High School in 1959. She received a degree in Political Science from Trinity College in Washington D.C. in 1963. Sydney is survived by her husband of 60 years, Patrick L. Woomer of Chester, and her four children; Mary Woomer of Old Saybrook, Kate Woomer Pierce and her husband Perry of Darien, Anne Bartoszuk and her husband Greg of Warren, RI, and Patrick Woomer and his wife Tara of Plymouth, MA. She is known as Nannie by her nine grandkids; Topher and Brittany Pierce, Joshua and Ben Bartoszuk, Patrick, Charlotte, Lucy and Madeline Woomer, and Doug Maccaferri. She is also survived by her two sisters, Gail Galloway Nicholson of Camden, ME and Janet Galloway Werner of Adamstown, MD, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom loved and admired her. Sydney returned to school once her children were adolescent­s and earned her Master's in Social Work from the University of Connecticu­t and LICSW from Smith College. She then moved into a private therapy practice, through which she helped many people. Once retired, she was a committed volunteer for both Alzheimer's research and Middlesex Hospital Hospice. Throughout her life, Sydney shared her love of art, architectu­re, reading, travel, gardening, and elegant style with her children and then her grandchild­ren. The family would like to thank several people who helped Sydney through her journey as she struggled with Alzheimers; the staff at Chestelm Adult Day Services, Denise Thorndike for her devoted care, the entire staff of Ocean Meadow in Clinton, and The Connecticu­t Hospice. Friends may pay their respects from 5-7PM on Wednesday, December 28th at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St., Centerbroo­k, CT 06409. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Thursday, December 29th at St. Joseph Church, 48 Middlesex Tpke., Chester, CT 06412. Burial arrangemen­ts will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Associatio­n CT Chapter in Sydney's memory. Donations can be made online at alz.org/ct.
