Schaffhauser, Lloyd
Lloyd Schaffhauser, the man with the million dollar laugh and as many friends, died unexpectedly at Hilton Head Hospital with his adoring wife, Helen Kemp, and his niece Adrienne Pratt, at his
side. He was 87 years young.
Lloyd was born in 1935 in
Norwich, Connecticut and was the son of the late Joseph J. and Anna L. Schaffhauser. He was a graduate of Norwich Free Academy. Immediately after high school, during the height of the Korean War, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served three years. After serving his country, he attended the University of Connecticut, where he received his B.S degree in accounting. He became a Certified Public accountant in 1967 and worked for Slade Mace & Co., CPA in Hartford Connecticut, where he became a partner in the firm. In 1978 he went to work for Connecticut Transit (now known as CTTransit) as the Finance & Budget Officer
and retired in 2003 as the Pension Plan Administrator.
The character of Lloyd's life might be summed up in a few words: he was sincere, he was honest and he was loyal. He was a splendid man of great humor and big heart and those that knew him are unlikely to forget the warm and glowing brightness of his friendship. Lloyd was a kind and wonderful soul. He will be deeply missed by all who were lucky and privileged enough to know him
He was a devoted Yankees and Giants fan (although he
grew to love South Carolina college sports) and was captivated by podcasts and true crime stories. To the exasperation of his wife, he loved all “gadgets” and technology. He traveled extensively in the last decades of his life. Some of the happier times included an ocean
crossing on the QE II, a flight on the Concord and a memorable family vacation on Hilton Head Island for his 70th birthday.
His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Helen, and his niece Adrienne (Schaffhauser) Pratt and her husband Tim Pratt of Mystic, CT. He also leaves his dear friends Patricia Pagani of Plainville and Chuck
and Ann Marie Reuter of Granby Connecticut. His was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Philip and Theela Schaffhauser, and his life time friend, Ken Fernino, who was like a brother to him. He also leaves
behind his beloved cat Charlie.
Interment will be held at the beautiful Six Oaks Cemetery located in the Sea Pines Resort on Hilton Head Island. www.Keithfuneral.com.
