- Please sign guestbook at courant.com/obituaries

Steven Robert Fortier, 67, of Hamden, passed away peacefully, after a long course with Dementia, at St. Rafael Hospital in New Haven with family by his side. He was born in Hartford, CT, son to the late Arthur William Fortier and Elaine (Duffy) Fortier; brother to the late Debra Guglielmo and Jay Fortier. Steve is survived by his brother Jeffrey Fortier of Cheshire, CT; daughters Christy Dickman of Longmeadow, MA, Alyssa Zalaski of Keene, NH; sons in-law Eddie Dickman and Mike Zalaski, and his beautiful grandchildren: Harper Zalaski (14), Jack Zalaski (12), Paige Zalaski (8) and Lainey Dickman (3). Steven was a retired Lead Jet Engine Mechanic at Pratt & Whitney, where he worked alongside family and friends for nearly 4 decades. He was an avid fisherman and US Air Force trained electrician and was proud of his many “Steve-style” improvement projects. The years brought many chapters and travels. Wherever he went, Steve developed many valued friendships. His special bonds made in his years devoted to AA and Valorus (formerly Barefoot) Church of North Myrtle Beach, provided a great deal of meaning and support for him. Steve loved and was proud of his family, especially his grandchildren whose photos still brought light to his eyes, even in his last days. Steve had a huge heart, which loved to a fault. Those who knew him will remember the easy and playful way about him and how he was quick to lend a hand or shoulder to anyone and was truly dedicated to those in need. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff at Meadow Mills, where he lived out the last of his years with grace and loving care; also to his VA Home Care team who made the most recent years all the more manageable. Services will be held at a time and date to be determined. Family asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer's Association in honor of Steve: at www.alz. org. DellaVecchia Funeral Home, Southington, is assisting with arrangements. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.dellevecchiasouthington.com
