Hugh Meinweiser, 95, of Farmington Woods, Avon, CT died January 10, 2023. Born in Buffalo, NY, he was the son of Harold A. Meinweiser and Bessie Blanchard Meinweiser. He was educated in Buffalo Schools and attended Colgate University for a short time but then enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving on a Destroyer. Upon discharge in 1946, he returned to Colgate with the help of the G.I. Bill. He was a member of the Beta Theta Pi & Pi Delta Epsilon - a founding era member of the Colgate "13" acapella singing group & Junior & Senior Honorary Societies. In 1950 after graduation he was recalled during the Korean War. Reporting to Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI, then to serve on the Destroyer Escort USS Rizzi 527, as Gunnery Officer and then Executive Officer. In 1955 he joined the Travelers Insurance Co as an officer in the Pension Department. A 15-gallon blood doner. He was a UCONN Health Center volunteer, past president of Hartford Insurance City Chorus, affiliated with Barbershop Harmony Society and very active with the Landscapin­g in Farmington Woods over the years and was chair of the committee.

Hugh is survived by his wife of 72 years, Sally Rollins Meinweiser, two children M. Karl Meinweiser of East Hartford, CT; Holly M. Gerner (Mike) of Canton, CT. He was predecease­d by his son Blake Meinweiser.

Also surviving are his grandchild­ren; Daniel L. Solari (Kristin) of Wilmington, DE; Jean E. Nadeau (Jamy) of Canton, CT, Nikolaus B. Solari of West Hartford, CT and Andrew R. Solari of New Hampshire. A great granddaugh­ter Lia Nadeau.

He was an avid tennis player and golfer in his retirement. There will be no calling hours or funeral. Burial will be in Christ Church (Episcopal) Columbariu­m in Bronxville, NY at the convenienc­e of the family.

In lieu of flowers or donations Hugh suggests hoisting a tall cool one in his memory.
