Dorothea Katherine Howard, age 95, of Unionville, CT passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 15, 2023. Dorothea was born August 30, 1927 in Queens Village, NY to the late Katherine (Haberern) and Andrew Howard. She was a graduate of Public School No. 33 in Queens Village and of Jamaica High School in Jamaica, New York.

Dorothea began her career as a federal employee at the US Maritime Service in New York City in July 1945. She transferre­d to the Internal Revenue Service in Connecticu­t in 1946 when she and her family moved to Unionville. Dorothea worked for the IRS for 40 years. Dorothea took pride in cultivatin­g a large variety of daffodils in her garden each year for her friends and family to enjoy. She was a skilled seamstress and also made many beautiful needlepoin­t pictures that she displayed in her home.

Dorothea enjoyed many years with the Town of Farmington Services for the Elderly. Nancy Walker and Betty Anderson provided lasting friendship with Dorothea. Dorothea was also the Church Historian for Bethany Lutheran Church for many years.

Dorothea is survived by her nephew and Godson Andrew R. Howard, Jr. (Patricia), niece and Goddaughte­r Ruth H. McCray (Neil), Niece Alison M. Howard, Great Nephews Seth Howard (Melissa), and Zachary Duchow (Jacque), Great Nieces Shelby Giokas (Paul), and Allison Laviero, Great Great Nephew Andrew Giokas, and Great Great Niece Aline Giokas, and Goddaughte­r Miranda Litke (Brandon). Dorothea leaves extended family in David Howard, Lilijean Metcalf, Kathleen McKenzie, and Laurel Wacholz.

Dorothea was preceded in death by her brother Andrew R. Howard Sr. (Muriel).

Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 18th at 11:30 a.m. in Bethany Lutheran Church, 1655 Boulevard, West Hartford, CT. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery, Avon, CT.
