Thank You,Larry!

-

Few people in Connecticut have created a legacy of engagement and excellence like Larry McHugh. As he retires, we celebrate him!

In 39 years as president of the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce, Larry was well ahead of his time as a connector, creating bridges and building opportunity for the business community, both for-profit and non-profit. Under his leadership, the Chamber has become nationally recognized for contributing to a vibrant economic climate in the county and the state.

Success, opportunity and mentorship have been watchwords for Larry throughout his storied career. From his early days as a football coach at Xavier High School, he’s lifted up the next generation. He chaired UCONN’s board of trustees for 8 years, solidifying the university’s reputation as a world-class institution. He also notably spearheaded the Chamber’s work to reduce alcohol, tobacco, and substance abuse, and their award-winning Side Street to Main Street Minority Business & Leadership Development Program.

Larry McHugh’s service to the public and private sectors of the state is legendary. Yet the personal touch he brings to every interaction may be most remembered by generations of colleagues, teammates, athletes, students, and friends. If you were lucky enough to receive one of the thousands of handwritten notes Larry penned throughout the decades, you know the greatness of the man.

THANK YOU, Coach, for an unrivaled record of inspiration and commitment to Middlesex County and the State of Connecticut. We wish you and Patty the best.
