Susan Hammar, 64, unexpected­ly passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2023. Susan, also known by many names but mostly Sue and/or Susie, was born in Meriden on July 13th to the late Donald Hammar and Carol Zimmerman. Most of her life was in Meriden, but she resided in Middletown. She attended Keene State College in New Hampshire where she earned her teaching degree in special education. She was a member of the Meriden Board of Ed since the early beginnings of her career until she happily retired in 2019. She gave everything to her schools and her students, which she frequently referred to as her "children" and absolutely loved working with the special needs community. So much so, she even went back after retirement to help here and there because she enjoyed it so much.

Sue had an immense social life which included being a member of the Hartford Elks Club, the Meriden Federal Credit Union, the Meriden Amateur Softball Associatio­n, and the Center Congregati­onal Church of Meriden, CT. She bartended on Sundays at the Village Barn in Meriden referred to as Sunday's with Susie. She coached girls' volleyball at Lincoln Middle School. Not only was she an active member in her communitie­s, but she was also an avid Green Bay Packers fan and a huge Redsox fan. Sue loved her trips to Cancun every year with her massive Cancun family. She enjoyed camping in Rhode Island where the beach called to her. Sue loved her time with family and friends sitting around the campfire and solving the world's problems. Sue is survived by her sons, Dan Nizeul with his wife Shana, and Bobby Nizeul; her daughter Kathryn Nizeul; her two grandkids, Axton and Felicity; her two brothers, her twin Ron Hammar and her older brother Rick Hammar and her stepmother, Mimi Hammar. She is also survived be many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, March 25th from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, CT 06450.
