Catherine Flaherty Condio, 78, a longtime resident and community leader of East Hartford, passed away peacefully at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Coventry, CT on January 15, 1945, the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Lipsky) Flaherty. She graduated from a private all womens college in Boston and pursued her passions in dental hygiene, while showing and riding Morgan horses. She married the love of her life the late, John Joseph Condio of Manchester, CT and moved to East Hartford where she devoted more than forty years to her community through her organization of the states Forth of July River Festivals, Quinnetukut Rendezvous & Native American Festivals, Wapping Fair, Blue Grass Festivals, Veterans Day Parades, Mark Twain Day and many more Riverfront Recapture events for both East Hartford and Hartford. As Democrat Woman of the year awardee for East Hartford, you would always see her out campaigning with passion and purpose for our local mayors, governors, senators and educators. A commissioner of the Planning and Zonning, Constable and Justice of the Peace, these were just a few of the many leadership roles she held. Her greatest joys however were the memories she made as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her crafts, parties and meals cooked at holiday time are legendary, along with joys of hunting, fishing and skeet shooting shared with her family and life long friends. A true pioneer for the women of our generation, she was a go getter, an inspiration and will be so deeply loved and missed. Services will be held privately.
