Johnie C. Joiner, beloved husband of Frankie M. Joiner transition­ed into his sunset with his loved ones at his side on March 13, 2023. Son of the late Atron and Charles J. Joiner, he was born on June 1, 1945, in Oglethorpe, Georgia. He was raised in Hartford Connecticu­t and was a graduate of Hartford Public High School.

Johnie's love for basketball started at an early age, and he developed into a Hartford Public High School standout who was recognized as an All state and All New England basketball player. After a short stint at Virginia State University, he pursued a career in the Hartford fire department. Johnie served the department for 34 years before retiring with the rank of Lieutenant.

As the family patriarch, Johnie loved his role as a husband, father, brother, grandfathe­r, great grandfathe­r, and mentor to many. Amongst his grands, he was affectiona­tely referred to as “Poppy”.

Johnie's hobbies included being a high school basketball referee, certified HVAC technician, and working on cars. Johnie also loved watching drag racing, the Uconn woman's basketball team and football.

Johnie and Frankie celebrated their fifty-sixth wedding Anniversar­y on January 14, 2023, he was a loving and dedicated husband and father.

Predecease­d By his mother Atron and father Charles Joiner, sister Lonnie Mary Wilson, and brother Charles “Bobby” Joiner. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Frankie M. Joiner, daughter Connie Gray and husband (Robert Gray) of Evans, Georgia, son Kevin Joiner and his significan­t other (Madeline Sebastian) of Hartford and youngest daughter Michelle Joiner of Bloomfield. Sister Brenda Joiner, of Windsor and Lois Mary Wilson of Hartford. Grandchild­ren Kyla Ellerbe, Lamar Gray, Iana Wright, Ahjah Early, Kairi Joiner, and Kaion Joiner, and Great Grandkids, Azure Ellerbe, Ariyah Ellerbe, Amir Ellerbe, and Avian Early.

He will be truly missed by all.

Johnie's family will receive family and friends on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, from 10am-12pm, followed by a memorial service at 12pm, at The Lodge Community Chapel, 130 Deerfield road, Windsor, CT.
