Dumond, Michael Scott

On July 29, 2023 firefighter Michael Scott Dumond answered a call to heaven. Mike was the firstborn child of Ronald and Sylvia-Ann Dumond. Born November 4, 1987, at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. Michael was raised and lived his entire life in Lebanon CT. As a boy, Mike trained in Tae Kwon Do. He acquired a lifelong obsession with fishing by spending summers at his grandparent's cottage at the lake. Despite learning disabilities, Michael was accepted by the school community and graduated from Lyman High School in 2006 where he made lifelong friends. Mike was a wrestler in high school and won the conference championship bronze medal his senior year. Mike was extremely proud of where he came from. He was constantly riding his bike around town, connecting with old friends on the town green as they went for a run, stopping by the senior center or church to lend a hand, and working at one of many farms around town. After high school, Mike started working at Stop and Shop in Willimantic and participating in the Special Olympics where he excelled at bowling, hockey, and soccer. He became a fixture in both communities and gained countless friendships. Self-proclaimed, “The Dumonator,” Michael was a big kid at heart who loved to help others and was never afraid to try something new. When Mike was around eighteen years old he became interested in joining the Lebanon Volunteer Fire Department (LVFD) where he served for 17 years. If you were to ask Mike what he was most proud of in life, he would say his service to the LVFD. He marched in the Lebanon Memorial Day parade only weeks before his death after an almost year-long battle with cancer. If Michael was not at the firehouse he could be found at Stirrup Fun Stables riding horses. He joined the stables after winning a raffle for a free riding lesson and Mike never left. The family he gained at Stirrup Fun Stables and especially the LVFD supported Mike as he grew from a boy to a man. Michael has proudly served the town of Lebanon in ways that can never be fully measured, the loss of his presence will forever be felt by its residents. Mike was the oldest of 14 cousins. He loved being an uncle and affectionately referred to his niece as, “my Ava.” Mike was predeceased by grandparents John and Elsie Dumond of Hebron and Fredrick and Kathleen Elmy of Ansonia. Michael leaves behind his loving sister Chelsey and brother-in-law Ian Ewers of Woodbine Maryland. His brother Jonathan of Lebanon CT and countless other friends and family. Never to be forgotten Mike touched the lives of so many people and we are all better for having been a part of his extraordinary journey through life. Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 11 from 4-8 pm at the AuroraMcCarthy Funeral Home 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester, CT. A mass will be held the following morning at 10 am at the St. Francis of Assisi Church 67 West Town St., Lebanon, CT. Burial will follow in the North Lebanon Cemetery on Synagogue Rd. in Lebanon followed by a celebration of life on the Lebanon Town Green.
