Jalbert, Jean-Paul
Jean-Paul Jalbert, 88, of Southington, loving husband of Gilberte “Bert” (Sirois) Jalbert for 62 years passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at the HOCC at New Britain General after a brief illness.
He was born December 28, 1935 in St. Jacques, New Brunswick, Canada, a son of the late Eddie and AnneMarie
(LeBel) Jalbert.
Born into a farming family, Jean-Paul was a hardworking man his entire life. He worked as a farmer, lumberjack, and truck driver in Canada before moving his family to Connecticut. There he worked construction until he was hired by The Stanley Works, retiring when the factory closed after 37 years of service. When he wasn’t working double shifts, he filled his time working construction and driving busses. In addition to his full-time job at Stanley, he worked part time for many years at St Dominic Church, maintaining grounds, fabricating and remodeling buildings and classrooms, doing repairs, and plowing snow. A jack of all trades, he could construct or repair almost anything. He was a member of St. Dominic Church for over 50 years where he was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and member of the Acts Retreat Group.
Jean-Paul had a great spirit of adventure and curiosity. During his retirement years, he lived his best life along with his wife, enjoying traveling and exploring many interesting places including Alaska, Hawaii, Paris, Italy, the Canadian Rockies, and the Caribbean. His last overseas trip of a lifetime was a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in Israel.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Bernice Jalbert and partner Dave Neto of Middletown, Lise Jalbert of Southington, Peter Jalbert and wife Jennifer of Granby and Eddie Jalbert and wife Elaine of E. Hartford; four grandchildren, John Jalbert and wife Liz, Brian, Kenzie and Maxime Jalbert; two great-grandchildren, Persephone and Sebastian Jalbert; a brother, Maurice Jalbert and wife Eveline of New Britain; six sisters, Marguerite Bouchard and husband Renald of Charlebourg Quebec, Beatrice Pilote and husband Jean, Marie-Paule Pelletier, Jocelyn Levesque and husband Robert all of Edmundston, New Brunswick, Canada, Micheline Martin and husband Peter of Brossard, Montreal and Jeanne D’Arc Marchand and husband Gaetan of St. Hilaire, New Brunswick, Canada as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson Nicholas Jalbert and two sisters, Alliette Plourde and Rachel Plourde of Edmundston, NB. Canada.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at 10:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington to St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Rd., Southington for a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery.
