Robert C. Porter, 92, of Unionville passed away peacefully on Friday, January 19. He was born June 29, 1931 in Hartford to John C. Porter and Laura (Weller) Porter. Raised in Farmington, Bob attended public schools there, and was president of the Farmington High School Class of 1949.

He attended the University of Connecticu­t for one year and then enlisted in the United States Air Force. Bob served stateside during the Korean War, primarily as a management instructor at Tyndall AFB, Florida. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and after his honorable discharge, returned to Connecticu­t and met and married the love of this life, Marian Frances Calkins.

After completing his education at Southern Connecticu­t State University, he joined the staff as an Instructor, men’s dormitory director, and was soon appointed Director of Admissions. Subsequent­ly earning his Master of Education from the University of Hartford, he served 25 years at SCSU, retiring in 1986 as Director of Admissions and Enrollment Services. He enjoyed his retirement at his home in Cheshire and then in Farmington.

Bob was predecease­d by his brothers James of Florida and Bruce of Tennessee. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Marian, sons Robert Scott (Sharon) of Wallingfor­d, Craig W. (Dawn) of Goshen, daughter Jennifer Lee (Mike Murphy) of Unionville; and granddaugh­ters Kathryn and Kyla.

He was a lifelong Congregati­onalist and an avid golfer. He also enjoyed college football, puttering around the basement and working in his yard.

Funeral and burial will be private and at the convenienc­e of the family. There are no calling hours. Donations in Bob’s memory can be made to the First Church of Christ, Unionville, or The American Heart Associatio­n.
