Central Connecticu­t knocks off Wagner; Trinity improves to 20-0

Kellen Amos’ 17 points helped Central Connecticu­t defeat Wagner 69-68 in overtime on Saturday at New Britain.

Wagner led by nine points with 4 minutes remaining, but the Blue Devils eventually tied it on two free throws by Jordan Jones with 12 seconds left. A 3-pointer by Amos gave them a 69-68 lead with 51 seconds left in overtime.

Amos added five rebounds for the Blue Devils (12-8, 6-1 Northeast Conference). Jordan Jones added 16 points while going 5 of 15 from the floor, including 1 for 3 from 3-point range, and 5 for 6 from the line, and they also had five assists. Tre Breland III shot 6 for 15, including 2 for 9 from beyond the arc to finish with 14 points.

Javier Esquerra Trelles finished with 22 points for the Seahawks (9-10, 3-4). Wagner also got 17 points from Melvin Council Jr.. Keyontae Lewis also had 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Trinity 62, Amherst 49: At Hartford, Henry Vetter had a game-high 18 points and the undefeated Bantams, ranked No. 5 in the nation in Division III, raced out to a 39-21 halftime lead in posting their 20th victory.

Jarrel Okorougo came off the bench to add 15 for Trinity (20-0, 6-0 NESCAC) and Ben Callahan-Gold added 13. The Bantams remain the lone undefeated team in the D3hoops.com top 25.

Yale 78, Harvard 65: At Boston, August Mahoney and John Poulakidas scored 22 points each in Yale’s Ivy League win.

Mahoney added seven rebounds for the Bulldogs (13-6, 4-0 Ivy League). Poulakidas made 4 of 7 3-pointers and 8 of 13 overall. Matt Knowling was 6 of 11 shooting and 2 of 3 from the free-throw line to finish with 15 points. The Bulldogs picked up their sixth straight win.

The Crimson (10-7, 1-3) were led by Malik Mack, who recorded 20 points and six assists. Chandler Pigge added 13 points for Harvard. Chisom Okpara also had 12 points and two steals.

Fairleigh Dickinson 93, Sacred

Heart 91: At Teaneck, N.J., Ansley Almonor’s 22 points helped Fairleigh Dickinson defeat Sacred Heart for the Northeast Conference win.

Almonor added five rebounds for the Knights (10-12, 4-3 Northeast Conference). Jo’el Emanuel scored 17 points while going 5 of 8 and 6 of 9 from the free throw line, and added five rebounds. Sean Moore had 17 points and shot 6 for 10, including 4 for 5 from beyond the arc.

The Pioneers (10-12, 4-3) were led in scoring by Kyle McGee, who finished with 23 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Nico Galette added 18 points, 17 rebounds and six assists for Sacred Heart. In addition, Aidan Carpenter had 16 points.
