Dickson, Jr, Robert Kimball

-

Kim Dickson was born January 17th, 1942 in Hartford CT to Robert and Ida Dickson (Rivoire), and spent nearly his entire life in West Hartford. Kim grew up in the Elmwood neighborhood with his parents and younger sister, Louise. At Hall High School in West Hartford Center, Kim met his future wife, Carol Deasy, and they began dating in 10th grade. They remained together through re-districting and the creation of Conard High, during his time at Trinity College and (starting in June 1963) through more than 60 years of marriage.

Kim began his career in the mail room of the Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company and went on to become an actuary there after college. Over the years, he moved through various executive positions, ultimately to Executive Vice President. After leaving CML in 1995, he went on to his next role as an investment advisor.

Although Kim made his mark professionally as a senior executive in the “Insurance Capital of the World,” he will be most well remembered by those close to him for his kindness and his humility. He was a lifelong church member, volunteering countless hours to various committees and, most importantly, lending his instantly-recognizable tenor voice to choirs starting in 1957. Whether he was preparing meals for his family, coaching his grandchildren on sports teams, guiding friends through difficult times, or participating in a range of charitable activities—including Chairman of the Salvation Army Greater Hartford Advisory Board— he lived his life in the spirit of true servant-hood. John 13:12-15.

Kim's life hit a rough final chapter with a brain cancer diagnosis in August 2023. The treatment efforts ultimately were unsuccessful, but he continued to focus on caring for his family until the end. On Sunday, February 18th, Kim died peacefully at his home.

Kim will be dearly missed. He is survived by his wife, Carol, his sons and daughters-in-law, Rob & Jeff, Kyoung-Hi & Jeanine, his grandkids, Liam, Christopher, Tim, Eliza, Mina and Kyle. And a dog named Nala.

A service celebrating Kim's life will be held at 11am on Saturday March 23rd, at the Flagg Road United Church of Christ (134 Flagg Road in West Hartford). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Kim to the Neuro-oncology Support Fund at the University of Connecticut Foundation, Inc. Checks made payable to the UConn Foundation, Inc. can be mailed to: The UConn Foundation, Inc. Attn: Data Services, 2390 Alumni Dr., Unit 3206, Storrs, CT 06269-3206.
