Grace Ellen (Luther) Tanguay, “Nana,” "Mother,” (89), beloved wife of Edwin H. Tanguay for 68 years, passed away surrounded by her loving family on February 23, 2024. She was born on December 21, 1934 in Hadlyme, CT to the late Justin and Mildred (Taylor) Luther. Grace graduated from Nathan Hale Ray High School in 1952. She worked for 10 years at UTC Hamilton Standard on the Moon Suit Project. She then traveled, with her husband and son, for Pratt & Whitney, thru the Midwest for several years. Grace spent over 20 years donating her time as an EMT on the Lyme Ambulance and 5 years on the East Haddam Ambulance. She was an avid quilter and won many awards at quilt shows and fairs for her beautiful creations. Grace is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Wayne Tanguay (LeeAnne Brophy) of Newington, CT; three grandchild­ren, David Tanguay (Veronica) of Durham, CT, Robert Tanguay (Samantha) of East Haddam, CT, Heather Shiffer (Clark) of Redding, PA; four great grandchild­ren, Evelyn and Lillian Shiffer, Rhiana and Raith Tokarz. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Joyce Leffingwel­l; brother-in-law, Palmer Smith; as well as several nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. She was predecease­d by her husband, Edwin; sisters, Virginia Swan, Doris Smith, Laura McClure; and daughter-in-law Vickie Clark Tanguay. To say she will be greatly missed is an understate­ment. She was a friend to all and asked nothing in return. Her family would like to thanks the wonderful, caring staff of Middlesex Hospice Care. There are no calling hours or service.
