Ellington, Dean Kirk Patrick
Dean Kirk Patrick Ellington, 46, of Berlin, CT, beloved husband of Therelza D. Ellington née Watson, passed away at home on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. He was a son of the soil, born in Manchester, Jamaica on September 29, 1977, to the late Winston W. Ellington and Valda E. Ellington née Walker. Dean’s formative years were spent in Lancaster, Manchester, Jamaica until he migrated to Hartford, CT at the age of nine. He attended Glastonbury High School and graduated from the University of Hartford in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication. Dean worked in the broadcast industry for 25 years at the local, regional, and international level including FOX61, Disney-ESPN and other broadcast companies earning him multiple Emmy Awards and other recognitions. Dean, “Technical Wizard”, spent most of his 22 year career as a Technical Director with his most recent position being Remote Operations Producer. In Dean’s final year of college, he met his love, Therelza. They have been married for over 20 years and have two children. They, along with his siblings, in-laws and friends will miss his infectious and unforgettable laugh and his smile that lit up the room. Dean was a renowned traveler, with a pallet for the finest cuisines and beverages (top shelf); an amazing chef, DJ, driver, photographer, comedian, brother, Godfather, friend, mentor, worker, family man, dad, and husband. Dean was predeceased by his parents, Winston W. Ellington and Valda E. (Walker) Ellington, and sisterin-law, Sonia Lewis. Dean’s life and legacy is survived by his wife Therelza, their two children, Julian T. Ellington and Julia N.D. Ellington both of Berlin, CT; his five siblings, Samantha Ellington of Hempstead, NY, Debbie-Ann Ellington-Tulloch (Tireak) of Farmingdale, NY, Linton Ellington of Canada, Dadrian Ellington of Bloomfield, CT, and Glenese Ellington of Jamaica; adopted brother, Phillip Lewis of Jamaica, adopted sister, Gene Nooks (Michael) of East Hartford, CT; three uncles, Howard Blidgen (Pauline) of Hartford, CT, William Blidgen (Sylvia) of Vero Beach, FL, and Roderick Brown (Barbara) of Hartford, CT; two aunts, Inez Blidgen of Toronto, Canada, and Yvonne Palmer (Tony) of Derby, England; and a host of in-laws, God children, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, March 9, 2024, from 11:00AM – 1:00PM followed immediately by a Celebration of Life and Repass at The Lodge Community Chapel, 130 Deerfield Rd, Windsor, CT. The final farewell service will take place March 16, 2024, starting at 11:30AM, at the Frankfield Methodist Church followed immediately by internment at the Walker Family Plot in Lancaster, Manchester, Jamaica.
