Rovena passed away after a long battle with many illnesses, surrounded by her grandchild­ren and daughter on Wednesday, February 28, 2024. She was born in Kybarti, Lithuania. Her family became displaced persons as a result of World War II. She left home at 7, moving around Europe to stay ahead of the troop movements, and ultimately being in DP camps until they were allowed to immigrate. At the age of 17, she arrived in New York City on Columbus Day, 1951. Rovena learned English and completed her high school education, working in business offices in the garment district of NYC. She met and married Jeronimas Kubilius in 1955. They moved to New Britain, CT with his family due to the Hardware City’s work opportunit­ies and strong Lithuanian community. Rovena completed an accounting certificat­e through the University of Hartford and worked as a bookkeeper for many years. She retired at the age of 77. Rovena will be remembered for her skill at crocheting for friends and family for over 70 years. She also loved crafting with flowers and wreaths. She was adept at word puzzles and Sudoku, and loved dark chocolate, dancing, and reading, passing on those passions to her family. She was a Girl Scout leader and volunteere­d her sewing skills for many theater production­s. She leaves behind her daughter, Ramona Kubilius Anderson and son-inlaw, Cuppy Anderson, of New Britain, and her loving grandchild­ren, Chloe Anderson and Benjamin Farley and his fiancée, Elizabeth Matney. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, including her goddaughte­r, Rita Liogys Defendini of Long Island. She is predecease­d by her husband, parents Jurgis and Agota, and her brothers Stasys, Bronius, and Edvardas Liogys, as well as her sister Joana Liogys Dreseris. Rovena chose to be cremated and forgo a wake and funeral. The family will plan a celebratio­n of life and spreading of ashes in the spring, her favorite season.
