Helen “Penny” (Biel) Labieniec, 100, of New Britain, died peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Stanley J. Labieniec. Born in New Britain, she was the only child of the late Stanley and Victoria (Czaban) Biel, and remained a lifelong New Britain resident. She graduated from Pratt Institute in New York City with a degree in Fashion Design. Penny was a talented dressmaker, creating and sewing beautiful clothes throughout her life. She was a longtime member of Holy Cross Church and its Ladies Guild. She had a beautiful voice and sang in the Holy Cross Church choir, and the St. Jerome Church choir, and was a soloist throughout the years. Penny was a member of the Polonaise Club and the New Britain Council of Catholic Women. She was a member and past president of the Holy Cross School Mother’s Club. She loved watching sports daily, and was an avid fan of UConn Men’s and Women’s Basketball, the Celtics, the Red Sox and football.

We will miss her beautiful smile and her adoring ways. A loving mother, grandmothe­r and great grandmothe­r, she leaves four children, Susan Labieniec and Sharon Labieniec, both of West Hartford, John Biel Labieniec and his wife Diana of East Longmeadow, MA, and Paul Labieniec of New Britain; two grandsons Nicholas Noel-Labieniec and his wife Kate of Glastonbur­y, and Christophe­r Noel-Labieniec of Holyoke, MA; and three great grandchild­ren Maxx, Braeden and Savannah. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Penny was pre-deceased by her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Stasia and Boleslaw Nadolny, Mary Labieniec, Lorraine Baclawski, Anne and Ted Rogala, Terry and Joseph Urbanek, Florence and Casimer Dygus, and Paul and Annie Labieniec.

Her funeral service will begin on Monday, March 11, 2024, at 9:00 am from Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Burritt Hill, 332 Burritt St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Holy Cross Church, New Britain. She will be laid to rest beside Stan in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday, March 10, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Burritt Hill.
