Sacco, Vincenzina (Cavalieri)

-

Vincenzina Cavalieri Sacco age 97, of Hartford, beloved wife of the late Rosario Sacco passed away peacefully on March 5, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 27, 1926 in the town of Nicastro, province of Catanzaro Italy. She was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Teresa (Cittadino) Cavalieri. Vincenzina met the love of her life, Rosario Sacco in her hometown of Nicastro and they were married in May of 1948 and enjoyed 46 years together. Shortly after their marriage they began their journey to America where they started their family. Vincenzina (Vinny) retired from the city of Hartford Public schools working over 20 years mainly at Henry C. Dwight School. After retirement, she continued to work in their school lunch program. Prior to working for the city of Hartford, she also worked at G. Fox department store as a seamstress and with the Royal Typewriter.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, preparing wonderful meals during the holidays and baking cookies for family and friends - especially her biscotti. Her culinary skills were enjoyed by all those who knew her, and her recipes will be passed down for generations to come. She loved playing Rummikub with her family and friends, especially with her caregiver of six years, Dora. She loved daily phone conversations with her sister, Rosa, who called every day to check in and chat. She was proud of her Italian heritage and often loved to share stories of the old days and family life as a young girl growing up in Italy.

She was the pillar of the family and a woman of deep faith. She was a member of both St. Augustine and St. Luke churches in Hartford. Her patron saints were Padre Pio and St. Anthony. She was a member of the South End Senior Center in Hartford, the Italian American Ladies Society of Newington, and the St Anthony Club in Wethersfield.

Her true devotion was her family - a dedicated wife and mother. Her passing leaves a tremendous loss in the hearts of her children. Her daughter, Frances Sena, and her husband Salvatore, of Newington, and her son, Vincent Sacco, and his wife, Marcia, of Cromwell CT. She leaves behind six grandchildren she loved and spoiled. Her four grandsons, Salvatore Jr., Anthony, Michael and David Sena and her grandson, Nicholas Sacco, and granddaughter, Lindsey Sacco. As well as her treasured eight great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Anthony, Julia, James, Zachary, Lena, Eden and Lilah, and many nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for her loving presence, warm smile, kind spirit and generosity.

Vinny also leaves her sister, Rosa Balbo, and two brothers, Umberto Cavalieri, and his wife, Mary, of Schenectady NY, and Franco Cavalieri, and his wife, Irena, of Italy.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Salvatore Cavalieri, from Wethersfield, CT, her sister, Angelina Natrella, and brother, Antonio Cavalieri, from Italy, brother, Pasquale Cavalieri, from Australia, and brother-in-law, Italo Balbo, from Hartford, CT. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Vincenzina’s caregiver, Dora. Without Dora’s unwavering dedication and care, we would have not been able to keep Vincenzina at home all these years and continue to create such beautiful memories with her. Dora is a blessing and a part of our family now. We are forever grateful for her.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, March 12th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington.
