DiMaio, Vicky

-

Vicky DiMaio (née Vincenzina Angela Pietrantuono) ended her journey on this earth, crossed over the rainbow and transcended into eternity on March 4, 2024 at UConn John Dempsey Hospital. She joined her husband, Giovanni, her parents, Michele and Lucia Pietrantuono, along with her grandparents and other relatives. Her loving children, Jennifer and Michael were by her side as was Maria, her devoted sister. Vicky was a language teacher for 35 years in the Southington School System. Her students, grown and with children of their own, often recognized her and thanked her for the encouragement and support she gave them. Vicky was born in Campodipietra (province of Campobasso, Molise) Italy in 1946. With her family she immigrated to America in 1961. She attended New Britain schools, graduated from Central Connecticut State College (now University) and studied at Farleigh Dickinson University in Madison, NJ, and at Paris-Sorbonne Università, Paris, France. She earned a masters degree in the romance languages. She married her childhood friend and sweetheart Giovanni DiMaio in 1970 and together created a wonderful family. They were married for 42 years until his passing, December 2, 2012. With her family, she resided in New Britain, Plainville and Southington. For the past four years, the Middlewoods of Farmington assisted living community became her home. She enjoyed participating in most activities, especially Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Bingo, Pokeno, and the Power of Prayer group. Vicky was a woman of faith and a firm believer in God. Vicky enjoyed cooking for her family, especially for her grandchildren, Mya and Ari Grossman. She made a killer tiramisu, loved by her son-in-law, Seth, and countless ferratelle that she gave as gifts to friends. She enjoyed playing quarter slots at local casinos and sometimes she even won small jackpots. She especially loved playing Pokeno and Chinese checkers with her family. We are certain she will continue those hobbies in the hereafter. Many of her friends and relatives with similar interests are waiting for her to join those games in heaven. She was also an avid reader of books and magazines. Left to mourn her are her sister Maria, daughter Jennifer and her husband Seth, son Michael, grandchildren Mya and Ari, Zio Carlo Francalangia and his wife Zia Antonietta, in-laws, cousins, and many friends. We are especially grateful to Vicky’s caregivers: Maria Petru and Liz Villalba who provided compassionate care with respect and dignity during the last stage of Parkinson’s disease. We are also grateful to the Middlewoods of Farmington community, all staff and residents; they truly create a family environment. Vicky is now at peace and free from the crippling ravages of Parkinson’s. To honor Vicky’s memory you may make a donation to the Residents Council, c/o Bianca Turcotte-Reome Middlewoods of Farmington, 509 Middle Road, Farmington, CT 06032. All monetary donations the family receives will be donated to that council.
