Gracey, Marjorie Bacon

-

Marjorie Bacon Gracey, 88, died on February 27, 2024, at her home in Cornwall, Connecticut. Raised in New Haven, Marjorie received a B.A. from Skidmore College and an M.S. from Tufts University's Boston School of Occupational Therapy. She met her husband, Jerry, in Boston and they married in 1960, moving shortly afterward to Granby, Connecticut, where she raised three sons: Ian, Daniel, and Michael. She devoted the next two decades to her artwork, raising her sons, and hosting friends, nephews, and cousins who came to her home to enjoy games of wiffleball, football, basketball, and hockey on a home-made rink which she often tended with care on cold winter nights. She presided over both a kitchen table where boys might eat quick dinners in their skates, and an elegant dining room where the extended family lingered over holidays meals. Marjorie loved the town she called home for fifty-four years. She served as a president of the Granby Historical Society and while she engaged in numerous activities for the betterment of her town, she also engaged in quieter pursuits: reading, tending flower and vegetable gardens, and most importantly, creating art. She produced beautiful work as a pewter-smith, and delicate works of cloisonne that are cherished by friends, family, and patrons. Still, her greatest gift may be the love and patience she offered to many boys growing up in Granby, CT. She and her family loved their vacation home in Harpswell, ME a peaceful respite from their life in Granby Center. Marjorie spent the last eight years of her life in Cornwall, CT with her devoted caregiver, Delia Miller. She was predeceased by her husband, Jerry, her son, Daniel, her brother, Alfred Bacon, her sister, Jean Bacon Bryant, and her parents, Alfred and Jean Bacon. She is survived by Ian and Martha Gracey of Orr's Island, ME, Michael and Michelle Gracey of Newburyport, MA, Ewart Skinner and Rebecca Green of Bowling Green, OH, nine grandchildren: Abigail, Aidan, Angus, Elizabeth, Jedidiah, Katherine, Madigan, Olivia, and Rebecca, nephews Charles Bryant and David Bryant and their families, and many other cousins, nephews, and nieces. Many more were touched by her love, creativity, and loyalty. A memorial service will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Granby Historical Society, P.O. Box 840 Granby, CT. 06035.
