Wagner stuns top seed Central Connecticu­t

Julian Brown had 20 points in sixth-seeded Wagner’s 66-56 win against top-seeded Central Connecticu­t State on Saturday in the Northeast Conference Tournament semifinals at New Britain.

The Seahawks go to secondseed­ed Merrimack on Tuesday to play for a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Brown shot 5 of 11 from the field, including 3 for 8 from 3-point range, and went 7 for 8 from the line for the Seahawks (15-15). Keyontae Lewis added 12 points while shooting 6 of 10 from the field and also had nine rebounds.

Jordan Jones led the way for the Blue Devils (20-11) with 15 points. Jayden Brown added 10 points, six rebounds and two blocks for Cent. Conn. St.. Allan Jeanne-Rose also had 10 points and two blocks.

Brown 84, Yale 81 (OT): At New Haven, Aaron Cooley’s 3-pointer in the final second lifted the Bears to a stunning upset overtime victory, ending the Bulldogs’ chances to be the top seed in the upcoming Ivy League tournament.

The loss knocks Yale into the No. 2 spot and sets up the postseason tournament. The semifinals on Saturday at Columbia will be Brown vs. Princeton and Cornell vs. Yale. The winners meet on Sunday at noon for the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Quinnipiac 89, St. Peter’s 74: At Jersey City, N.J., Matt Balanc scored 25 points as the Bobcats closed out their regular season and now prepare for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament, where they will be the top seed.

Balanc shot 8 of 15 from the field, including 4-for-6 from 3-point range, and went 5-for-5 from the line for the Bobcats (23-8, 15-5 MAAC). Paul Otieno scored 18 points and added seven rebounds and three steals. Amarri Tice had 14 points and shot 3 of 6 from the field and 7 for 7 from the line.

Trinity 70, Tufts 53: At Hartford, Henry Vetter’s 28 points were almost three times as many as any other scorer to lead the 28-1 Bantams, the No. 3 Division III team in the nation, past their NESCAC rival.

The Bantams faced Calvin University of Grand Rapids, Mich., in an Elite 8 matchup on Saturday at 7:45 p.m. at Trinity with a berth in the Final Four on the line.
