Eleanor (Harder) Bartosik, born July 7, 1929, in Queens, New York she was raised in Ridgewood, Queens and Rocky Point, LI where she spent summers. After high school, she worked for 12 years as an executive assistant and occasional catalog model for Schenley Industries located in the Empire State Building. In 1959 she married Ray and made their first home and started their family in Seaford, Long Island. Leaving her beloved, New York, they relocated to Avon, CT in 1964 where she made lifelong friends with neighbors from the Briarcliff Swim Club, the Avon Women's Club, Gourmet Club and St. Matthew Lutheran Church where she and Ray were members for many years. Later she and Ray become members of Valley Community Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and cherished her “Circle of Love” group. Eleanor worked for the Simsbury school system for more than 25 years, again making many friends and wonderful memories there. An accomplished gourmet cook who appreciated good food and a good bottle of wine, she loved to entertain. She and Ray opened their home to their many friends and family for countless parties, cookouts, and holiday gatherings where everyone was welcome. Eleanor will be most remembered for being a loving and devoted daughter and wife, and a wonderful mom to her daughters and to her son-inlaw as well as for her quick and irreverent wit, her thoughtful nature, and her deep faith.

She was predeceased by her parents, Hans and Hedwig Harder, brother Walter and beloved husband, Raymond. She leaves her much loved children who will miss her deeply; Lisa and Al Sawicki of Savannah, GA and Susan Sullivan and Rob Courtemanche of Rhode Island as well as lifelong friends Sue and Ginny and many nieces and nephews. Later in life, she was shown great kindness by many, especially, “the girls”; Cindy, Mary-Michele and Kim and her devoted friends, Anne, and Faith. The family would like to thank the wonderful and compassionate staff at Avon Health Center where Eleanor made her home for the last 6 years. A celebration of Eleanor's life will be held at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society.
