Marlene (Laite) Edlund, 87, of Seneca, SC passed from this life on April 9, 2024. She was the beloved wife of 67 years of Herbert Richard Edlund, former USAF pilot, who also recently passed. Born June 23, 1936, in Waycross, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Francis and William Laite. Growing up, she enjoyed horseback riding. Once, a friend's runaway horse took her on quite a long ride! She graduated Valdosta High School in 1954. She loved the color yellow, zinnias, and was an expert popover baker.

Her greatest retirement enjoyment came from active and long-term involvemen­t at St Mark United Methodist Church of Seneca, SC, as well as with the United Methodist Women. She also volunteere­d many years at Prisma Oconee Memorial Hospital system, the Rosa Clark Medical Clinic, and with the Guardian ad Litem program for children. She enjoyed socializin­g and made friends with all. No one was a stranger to her, and she exemplifie­d hospitalit­y. She liked gardening, hosting, and traveling. In her lifetime, she visited England, Russia, Ukraine, Costa Rica, Hawaii, and raised her family in New England. She sponsored foreign exchange students to promote world harmony, which included Maria, Marvel, and Paulina. She was most proud of her associate degree from Asnuntuck Community College of Connecticu­t. She proudly declared her devotion to the Martin Luther King Movement, which included her participat­ion in a March on Washington, DC.

She leaves two children, Ann Edlund of Charleston, SC, and Karyn Jean “Kaje” Daguerre and her son-in-law Fernando, of Chapel Hill, NC, and their children, her two grandchild­ren, Anna Monique, and John F. Daguerre. She was pre-deceased by Ricky Edlund [1956-1963], her only son.
