Joseph Adelbert “Al” Gagne, Jr., 92, of Ellington, beloved husband of 70 years to Betty J. (Pearman) Gagne, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. He was born September 17, 1931, in Haverhill, MA, to Joseph A. Gagne, Sr. and Albina (Biron) Gagne.

Al grew up in Swampscott, MA and was a graduate of Swampscott High School, Class of 1949. Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he proudly served his country for four years before his honorable discharge in October of 1953. Upon returning home, Al, along with his wife and newborn son, relocated from England to Connecticu­t before ultimately settling in Ellington. He was employed by Pratt & Whitney for the next 34 years earning the title of VTL foreman by retirement in 1987. Al had a very hard-working mentality that was shown throughout his life, including many years part-time in the garage of Sears and Roebuck and his favorite side job, driving the Ellington School bus on daily routes and sporting events. He continued to stay busy even through his older years helping family and friends with daily tasks. In his spare time, he enjoyed being outdoors in the garden, at sporting events, or on road trips throughout New England. He enjoyed summers with his family camping the White Mountains of NH, and exploring the beaches along the RI coast, as well as visits back to England. He especially looked forward to nights out with his wife country line dancing.

Al is survived by his four children, Paul Gagne and his wife Carole of Ellington, Geoffrey Gagne and his wife Cynthia of Stafford Springs, Richard Gagne of Ellington, and Christine DeSimone and her husband Christophe­r of Annapolis, MD; his six grandchild­ren; three greatgrand­children as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predecease­d by twelve siblings. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 11 a.m. in Section 6 of Ellington Center Cemetery. Followed by A Celebratio­n of Life at the Italian Social Club, 56 Snipsic St, Vernon, CT at 1pm in remembranc­e of both Al and Betty, who passed on November 9, 2023.
