Losing Sense Of Fair Play

-

I’ve read some really mean-spirited letters to the editor over the years, but the Sept. 7 letter “Eager For Next Election” has got to rank among the most vicious.

To say President Donald Trump “has no morals, shows no empathy, is a pathological liar and demonstrates his racist white supremacist behavior with every breath he takes” sounds like someone completely blinded by hatred. What are the bases for any of these assertions? Something he did long before he even ran for office?

Is it the fact that he is enforcing our immigration laws, as required of him by the Constitution, and which his predecessors, Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, failed to do? Is he lacking in empathy by enforcing a requirement from President Bill Clinton that minor children should be separated from a parent when the parent is charged with a felony until the matter is resolved? Please give us some examples of his white supremacist behavior so that we can be on the lookout for future expletives.

It’s hard to blame our citizens for unwarranted attacks on the president when it is an ongoing activity by the media, using words and phrases such as “alleged,” “unnamed sources,” “informed sources,” “anonymous” or “inside the administration” without any named identifications.

Sadly, we are losing our sense of fair play, or fairness in general, because of political ideology.
