Target Possible Bishops Corner Tenant

WEST HARTFORD — The owner of the former Walmart space in Bishops Corner has submitted a request with the town to allow for Target signs on the building, indicating the store is an “intended tenant” on North Main Street.

The request — because it is considered a minor alteration — requires approval from Town Planner Todd Dumais and not a full public hearing before the town council. In a letter to the town council, Dumais said the plan submitted to his office is “in accordance” with the original plan for that building.

The town council can, however, reject Dumais' approval and recommend modifications be done.

A spokesperson for Target, Kali Dingman, said Thursday that the company is looking at the Bishops Corner neighborhood but would not speak about new store plans.

“At Target, we continuously explore possible locations for new stores, including in the West Hartford area,” Dingman said in an email. “I can tell you we are pursuing the opportunity to reach guests in the Bishops Corner neighborhood, but at this time, we're not at a point where we can share any new store plans.”

Property owner EDENS submitted the application on Sept. 14. Dumais is expected to discuss his decision to approve the application during Tuesday's town council meeting.
