Roads, Playground Among Projects

The state bond commission approved hundreds of millions of dollars in grants and loans Thursday. Here are some of the items approved, which range from grants for a parking garage to Little League fields to new roads.

Hartford

$16 million for a parking garage near the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts, the first step toward redevelopi­ng a sea of parking lots in the area. The commission will consider funding for three projects just north of downtown.

$8.5 million for a loan to build a grocery store.

$12 million for a loan to help build 200 apartments behind the Red Lion Hotel, the first phase of

Downtown North.

$4 million to create a loan fund to renovate a block of historic buildings near Dunkin’ Donuts Park.

$8.6 million loan to Spinnaker Real Estate Partners of Norwalk to develop apartments on the long desolate corner of Park and Main streets.

$5 million to replace sidewalks, plant trees and support traffic calming measures across the city.

$1 million for improvemen­ts to track and field lighting at Hartford Public High School. $509,000 for upgraded traffic signal systems.

$3 million for improvemen­ts at The Bushnell.

Transporta­tion Improvemen­ts

$7.2 million for urban highway systems.

$112.6 million for bus and rail facilities and equipment, including rights-of-way acquisitio­n.

$42.6 million for Local Transporta­tion Capital Improvemen­t Program. $129.3 million for highway improvemen­ts, including reconfigur­ation of I-91 exit on Charter Oak Bridge.

Riverfront

Improvemen­ts

$1 million for extending a paved and lighted walkway along the Connecticu­t River to the edge of Windsor Meadows State Park.

$2.3 million contributi­on to the town of East Hartford, which would pay for improvemen­ts to a boat ramp and fishing pier at Great River Park, as well as the renovation of the Bulkeley Bridge overlook and stairs leading to the Founders Bridge — all part of the town’s riverfront area.

Brownfield Cleanup

$10 million in grants and loans for additional cleanup of contaminat­ed brownfield sites across Connecticu­t.

Economic Developmen­t

$53 million for a variety of projects for the Department of Economic and Community Developmen­t, including grants to corporatio­ns such as Aer Lingus at Bradley Internatio­nal Airport, Synchrony Bank in Stamford and Gartner, Inc. of Stamford.

Other State Agencies

$9.7 million for housing projects, including Chrysalis Center for Courtland Arms Building in New Britain.

$5 million for open space conservati­on through the Department of Energy and Environmen­tal Protection. $10 million for school security grants for local school districts.

$200 million for grants for school building projects.

Municipal Projects

$10 million effort to renovate the historic Odd Fellows Hall in Waterbury. $100,000 for improvemen­ts to handball courts in Manchester.

$5 million for dredging of selected areas at the State Pier in New London.

$4.3 million for Bridgeport for local infrastruc­ture projects.

$2.3 million for constructi­on improvemen­ts at Noah Webster House, Inc. in West Hartford.

$3.5 million allocation for the next phase of the Harbor Brook Flood Control Project in Meriden.

$5 million for restoratio­n work at the Connecticu­t Aerospace Hall of Fame and Museum, Inc. at Sikorsky Airport.

$575,000 for upgrades to Little League fields in New Haven.

$217,000 to construct a playground and splash pad at DeGale Field in New Haven. $1.5 million for improved lighting and playscape at Wolcott Park in West Hartford.

$10 million for roof replacemen­t at the Warner Theater in Torrington.
