Griebel Invited To WFSB Debate
After being squeezed out of the last two face-to-face gubernatorial debates between Democrat Ned Lamont and Republican Bob Stefanowski, petitioning candidate Oz Griebel has been invited to join next week’s debate hosted by WFSB-TV and UConn.
“Democracy wins,” Griebel said. “This is what major media companies should do.”
Griebel was excluded from two previous debates between Lamont and Stefanowski after he failed to reach a10 percent threshold in public polls in the governor’s race. The latest Quinnipiac University poll showed Griebel at only 4 percent.
But he was invited to participate in the WFSB debate, which will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Jorgensen Theater. It will be broadcast live on WFSB-TV and WFSB.com.
Griebel said debates are important tools to help voters make up their minds. “Even in this age of social media, people do watch debates,” he said. “A lot of it is theater, but it does matter.”
