Cubs: Major League Baseball placed SS Addison Russell on administrative leave after he was accused of domestic violence by his ex-wife, Melisa Reidy, on a blog post. Reidy alleged years of physical and emotional abuse. The 24-year-old Russell, who denied the allegations, can challenge the leave before an arbitrator, and the leave can be extended for additional sevenday periods if the union agrees. He will continued to be paid his $3.2 million salary. Last year, Reidy posted a photo on her Instagram account with a caption suggesting her then-husband of about 18 months had been unfaithful to her. In another post, a user — described by Melisa as a close friend — made the accusation that Russell had “hit” his wife. The post was later deleted. Russell denied the allegation and the two divorced. ... Against his former team, LHP Jose Quintana was charged with five runs and nine hits in fiveplus innings in a 10-4 loss to the host White Sox. OF Kyle Schwarber (lower back) returned to the lineup as the DH after missing nine games. The NL Centralleading Cubs, who gave up a season-high 19 hits in the loss, began the day with a 21⁄ 2- game lead over the Brewers.

Tigers: DH Victor Martinez said the last game of his career will be Saturday at home against the Royals. The 39-year-old five- time All-Star announced in August that he was likely to retire after the end of the season. But he moved the date up slightly so he could play his last game at Comerica Park.

Marlins: Pinch hitter Isaac Galloway hit an opposite-field double in the 10th inning to score Brian Anderson and give Miami a 1-0 home victory over Cincinnati. Galloway drove David Hernandez's 3-and-2 slider past right fielder Phillip Ervin to plate Anderson, who had reached on a double to right. Kyle Barraclough retired the final two batters in the top of the 10th for the win. Luis Castillo pitched 81⁄ scoreless

3 innings for the Reds.
