Chabad Center To Host ‘Wrestling With Faith’
GLASTONBURY — When it comes to faith, some have no doubt. “Wrestling With Faith,” a new class being offered by the Chabad Jewish Center in Glastonbury, is not for them.
“Wrestling with faith is usually a heavy topic,” said Rabbi Yosef Wolvovsky. “There are people who have faith without question. This is for everyone in between.”
The six-week series will “address common challenges people face in their relationship with God,” Wolvovsky said. The course, designed by the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute, will “explore thought-provoking ideas in a frank and sensitive manner,” Wolvovsky said.
The series starts Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at 25 Harris St., and is open to the public. Wolvovsky said those attending need not be affiliated with a particular synagogue or organization. The series is “designed for people at all levels of knowledge, including those without any prior experience or background in Jewish learning.”
“Most people have some level of faith and some level of struggle,” Wolvovsky said. “We want to make this a meaningful and uplifting discussion.”
Wolvovsky said the course acknowledges that almost everyone has some degree of skepticism when it comes to religion. The course is designed to have participants think critically about these challenges, so “we can articulate our beliefs with clarity and conviction.”
Wolvovsky said the course will discuss questions like: Does faith have a role in the 21st century? Why do I need God in my life? Is it even possible to develop a meaningful relationship with an abstract God? Does God really care about what I do? How can we believe in a loving God amid so much tragedy and suffering?

The series will also be offered at the West Hartford Chabad House at 2352 Albany Ave., on six Monday evenings, beginning Nov. 5. www.ChabadER.com
