WINDSOR – Arrow Value Recovery, a Windsor-based information technology asset disposal facility, will close its doors in September, costing 143 people their jobs, according to a letter sent to state labor officials last week.

Colorado-based Arrow Electronics Inc., a global electronics distributor, notified the state Department of Labor’s Rapid Response Unit in a letter dated July 16 that it plans to shutter the company, located at 100 Helmsford Way, on or about Sept. 16.

The letter from Arrow Electronics indicated that “this action is expected to be permanent.”

Windsor Town Manager Peter Souza said Monday he believed the company, which dismantles electronics equipment for its metals or to refurbish units, had been sold more than once over the last several years, but added he was surprised because he believed it had moved and signed a new lease in the last year or two.

Souza said the town would reach out to the company’s ownership to see if the decision was final, but added that it appeared to him that it was.

“It’s a business-based decision,” Souza said.

John Hourigan, vice president of global communications for Arrow Electronics, said Tuesday the decision to close the Windsor facility was part of a global initiative to align its operations to the ever-changing needs of the industry, specifically in the areas of personal computers and asset disposal.

“We conducted a review and we’re changing our approach to this business,” Hourigan said.

According to the company’s website, Arrow Electronics employs about 20,000 at 460 locations in 85 countries and had $29.7 billion in sales in 2018.
