Nonprofit set up to aid East Hartford public schools
Group hopes to engage alumni, community, other stakeholders
EAST HARTFORD – A group of people described as “passionate about East Hartford public schools” has launched a nonprofit organization dedicated to the success of local students.
The launch of the East Hartford Alumni Association and Education Foundation was announced Wednesday. The founding group came together about a year ago to brainstorm ways “to engage alumni, the community and other stakeholders to support our students and schools,” according to a news release.
The group has developed three main areas of focus: Creating a network of alumni who are committed to local public schools; developing mentoring programs to foster students’ success; and raising money to support scholarships and innovative educational programs in the district.
“We are extremely excited by the launch of the East Hartford Alumni Association and Education Foundation,” School Superintendent Nathan Quesnel said. “We are appreciative of the work that our alums have already committed to make this happen and look forward to future engagement. EH Pride runs deep and we are so grateful for this opportunity.”
The organization’s first-year goals include raising funds for five $1,000 scholarships for graduating students and launching an East Hartford Public Schools Hall of Fame to recognize students’ accomplishments.
The board of directors is inviting people to a Founders Reception on Oct. 24 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at The One Wood Pub Restaurant at the East Hartford Golf Club, 130 Long Hill St. The group is seeking donations at the following levels: Freshman, $20-$49; Sophomore, $50-$99; Junior, $100-$249; Senior, $250-$499; and Alumni, $500 and above.
