Pincince named CCSU interim AD

Tom Pincince, the longtime Central Connecticu­t State assistant athletic director for communicat­ion and media services, has been named interim athletic director at the university. Pincince takes over for Brian Barrio, who announced on Dec. 10 that he was leaving Central for the same position at the University of Maryland Baltimore County after only 16 months in New Britain. “I’ve spent much of my profession­al career as a Blue Devil,” Pincince said in a statement, “and look forward to working with the Central family.” Pincince is currently in his 18th year at CCSU.

Wolf Pack drops third straight, 7-1 at Charlotte

The Charlotte Checkers jumped out for a four-goal lead and rolled to a 7-1 AHL win over the visiting Wolf Pack, sending Hartford to its third straight loss. For the second consecutiv­e night the Checkers forced the Wolf Pack to change goalies midstream as starter Adam Huska, the former UConn standout, was pulled in the second period for Igor Shesterkin. On Tuesday, a

6-3 Checkers win, Shesterkin was pulled for Huska. Phil Di Giuseppe scored the lone Hartford goal, connecting on his eighth of the season at 14:21 of the second period. Seven different Charlotte players scored, including Julien Gauthier, who had a goal and two assists. Prior to the game the Wolf Pack announced that forward Ryan Dmowski was returned to the Maine Mariners of the ECHL.

Chris Knight scored 18 points and Aaryn Rai had 14 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists as Dartmouth defeated Central Connecticu­t 76-60 at Hanover, N.H. Knight was 8 of 8 from the field, and tied his career high for rebounds. He had seven points and seven rebounds in the first half to help Dartmouth build a 31-23 lead after closing on a 9-0 run over the final two-plus minutes. Jamir Reed had 15 points and Trey Tennyson added 12 — both career highs — for the Blue Devils (0-11).
