Elio R. Cavallaro, 84, of Wethersfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, February 23, 2020, where he was greeted by heavenly angels. He was the widower of Nancy (Di Mattia) Cavallaro. Son of the late Panfilo and Italia (Pace) Cavallaro, he was born and raised in Hartford and resided in Wethersfield. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Pratt & Whitney for over 50 years. Elio and Nancy owned and operated the Connoisseur Shoppe in Hartford for many years. He was an honorary member of the Pratolana Mutual Benefit Society and the Mt. Carmel Saint Cristina Society, both in Hartford. Elio loved to spend time listening to radio shows and music and watching all Andy Griffith episodes, and he enjoyed telling jokes. He also was Santa for many years for the Pratolana Society. A compassionate, generous and kind person, he loved spending time with his family, relatives and friends. Elio’s enduring love and memory will continue on in the hearts of his loved ones. In addition to his wife Nancy of over 50 years, he was predeceased by his sister, Carmela Callahan and her husband Eddie; his brother, Anthony Cavallaro and his wife Debbie; brothers-in-law, Loreto Di Mattia, Edoardo Di Mattia and Rico Cianfaglione and sisters-inlaw, Rosa and Alessandra Di Mattia. He is survived by his sister, Josephine Nolin and husband Bill of Broad Brook and his niece (who he considered a daughter), Monica Pace and husband Renato of Wethersfield and their daughter Kassandra. He also leaves his sisterin-law, Pina Cianfaglione of California, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family members. The family would like to thank the staff at Hartford Hospital ICU for their incredible care and support, as well as the staff at The Lodge in Rocky Hill. The family will receive relatives and friends from 9 - 10 a.m. on Thursday (February 27th) at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. on Thursday morning (February 27th) at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield.
