Police on Wednesday arrested a Plainville man who they said had 95 videos, and 30 still pictures, of child pornography, some showing victims as young as 1.

Matthew Yung, 30, of Metacomet Road was charged with first-degree possession of child pornography. He posted $50,000 bail after his arraignment Wednesday in Superior Court in New Britain, court records show, and is scheduled to return to court June 4. According to the arrest warrant affidavit, most of Yung’s child pornography was on two iPhones. One cellphone had 11 images and 67 videos, including one named “rape toddler girl.” The videos showed children ranging from 12 to about 1 year old, it said.

The second phone had 17 pictures and 28 videos, the warrant said. He had a few pictures on an iPad as well.

Police received a tip about Yung sharing child porn from Homeland Security Investigations, a division of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, on March 10. The agency had traced a photo to him through a messaging service Yung used to transmit a picture of a girl who was 8-12 years old, the warrant said.

Officers went with state troopers to Yung’s home March 18 with a search warrant. While detectives searched, a Plainville investigator talked to Yung, who admitted he had been logging into Kik Messenger for five years and downloading child pornography. Sometimes he shared it, too, according to the warrant.

“He said he prefers 9-year-olds,” the affidavit said. He told police he saved over 50 images and about 10 videos of children as young as 4 performing sex acts. Police later found more videos, which included even younger children.

Yung also said he would search for a term like “under 13” to find a chat room with children in it and he would talk online to the adolescents, the warrant said.

“He confirmed he would chat with children who tell him that they are 14 years old,” it said. “The children then send him sexually explicit photos and videos.”

Young told police he never met anyone underage for sex, the warrant said. “He admitted he has urges to have sex with children but has never acted on these urges because he knows it is wrong.”

He said his family has no idea he looks at child pornography, it said.
