Hartford-area restaurant­s offer Mother’s Day menus

In 2020, Mother’s Day brunches and dinners were done entirely by takeout. But with increasing vaccinatio­ns, it’s safer this year to honor mom with the kind of meal she loves best: gourmet cooked, served by a waiter, with champagne or mimosa on the side and no dishes to clean up.

Of course, families also can do takeout or delivery, too, if mom is not yet ready for a public outing. Here is a list of some Hartford-area restaurant­s that are offering special brunch and dinner menus for Mother’s Day.

The list is not all-inclusive. Call ahead to see what the dine-in, takeout and delivery options are.

Café Aura, 45 E. Center St. in Manchester, will offer Mother’s Day dinner specials on May 9 from 2 to 8 p.m. Specials include oysters Rockefelle­r, crab cake, beef carpaccio, zucchini flowers, fig ravioli, risotto, halibut, lobster and porterhous­e steak. The regular Sunday brunch also will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with specials for the day.

The Charles, 161 Main St. in Wethersfie­ld, has a prix fixe Mother’s Day dinner on May 9 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., for

$59, $25 ages 10 to 14 and $10 younger than 10, plus tax and tip. The meal starts with an amuse bouche with deviled eggs, breads and a mimosa for moms. The first course offers selections of eggs benedict, seafood asiette, antipasti, chopped salad, fruit and yogurt, crab cake, caviar, lobster bisque or avocado toast. The Capital Grille, 44 Front St. in Hartford, is offering Mother’s Day brunch specials for $39 each on May 9, with lobster frittata, NY strip steak and eggs, and filet mignon, all served with white cheddar hash browns, and the lobster and filet also with asparagus. The regular brunch menu also will be available. Takeout dinners, $165 for two people

and $295 for four people, can be picked up on May 8 from noon to 5 p.m. or May 9 from 10 a.m. to noon. The takeout dinner is tenderloin of beef with lobster tails, salad, mashed potatoes, rolls, asparagus, flourless chocolate cake and chocolate-covered

Connecticu­t RiverValle­y Inn,

2195 Main St. in Glastonbur­y, will have a Mother’s Day Brunch in the Garden on May 9 with seatings at 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. or 2:30 p.m., for $45, plus tax and tip. An “Artists Rising” May market of local artisans’ work will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Entrée items are spring chicken cobb salad, pan-seared salmon niçoise or vegetarian spring salad. Mill on the River, 989 Ellington Road in South Windsor, will offer a prix fixe Mother’s Day menu on May 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., at $44.95, $18.95 ages 12 and younger, plus tax and tip. Georgina’s, 275 Boston Turnpike in Bolton, has a Mother’s Day brunch on May 9 with seatings at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. Cost is $35, $15 for ages 12 and younger, plus tax and tip. Traditiona­l breakfast foods are joined by Caesar salad, quiche lorraine, chicken Francaise, broccoli au gratin and compliment­ary champagne and mimosas for moms. 227 Lawrence St. in Hartford, is offering delivery of Mother’s Day meals on May 9. Chicken Marsala Roulade or grilled swordfish, served with asparagus, cauliflowe­r potato puree and mixed berry tart with vanilla pastry cream, are $120 for two, $200 for four.
